Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - World Football Federation, FIFA, has announced an indefinite suspension of Kenya and Zimbabwe over government interference.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the suspension of the two Federations on Thursday.
Kenya toppled the elected leadership of the national football Federation, citing misuse of funds and corruption and appointed a former judge to lead a caretaker committee.
The FIFA Council, which met on Thursday, decided to slap the suspension on Kenya, regardless of any investigations against the national football Federation.
The government suspended Nick Mwendwa, Secretary General of the Football Kenya Federation, citing corruption. FIFA rejected the government's decision to disband the FKF in November 2021 following the arrest of the Secretary General.
The suspension of Kenya means the Kenyan national team is effectively barred from participating in international football activities.
