Arab League urged to play role in Libya's stability through elections

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed al-Haweij, has stressed the need for the Arab League to play a role in the stability of Libya and work with it to achieve transparent and fair parliamentary and presidential elections.

Speaking at the opening of Wednesday's meeting of the Council of the League of States at the League's headquarters in Cairo, he stressed the need to improve the Arab League's performance and develop it in such a way as to enable it to play a role that adapts to the changes and challenges facing the world today.

Mr al-Haweij is leading Libya's delegation to the 160th Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the League of Arab States.

He underlined Libya's principled position on the Palestinian question through its firm stance in favour of the Palestinian people.

The meeting adopted a number of decisions relating to the joint Arab action process and others relating to developments in a number of Arab countries, in addition to a number of issues relating to social, economic, legal and financial affairs.
