Angola wants to host women's Afrobasket in 2013

Luanda, Angola (PANA) - Angola wants to host the African senior women's basketball cup of nations in 2013, the secretary general of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), Tony Sofrimento, told the Angolan News Agency (ANGOP) here Sunday.

Sofrimento said Angola's candidature was also aimed at encouraging female basketball and
the building of more basketball facilities in the country.

Cameroon, DR Congo (DRC) and South Africa are also in the race to host the competition.

This year's event will take place in Mali.

Meanwhile, African Basketball officials will, 15 February, announce the host nation for the 2011 men's event.

Sofrimento said Angola was standing by to host the event should Cote d'Ivoire withdraw for the political problems ravaging the west African country.

Tunisia, Senegal, Nigeria and Madagascar have also confirmed their readiness to host the event which will qualify the African representative for the London Olympic games in 2012.
