Algerian president calls for non-interference in Libya affairs

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune has called for dialogue and national reconciliation to prevail in order to find a political solution in Libya, far from foreign interference, as in the Syrian and Yemeni crises.

This is to allow the people of these countries to "have their own future and achieve their legitimate aspirations for freedom and dignity".

Opening the 31st session of the Arab League in Algiers on Tuesday, Mr. Tebboune stressed that the Arab League is not the only one concerned by the crises.

Tebboune urged all internal, regional and international parties to tread the path of inclusive dialogue and national reconciliation, far from any interference in internal affairs, in order to reach political, peaceful and consensual solutions.

He said these solutions must enable the peoples of these countries to determine their own future and to realise their legitimate aspirations for freedom and dignity.

The Algerian Head of State, recalling the "exceptionally complex" regional and international situation, marked by the rise of tensions and crises, particularly in the Arab world, called for the Arab region, which has enormous natural, human and financial potential, to become an active economic force in the world.

He said they should all build a solid Arab economic bloc, guaranteeing their common interests, while working to define priorities and areas of common action.

Referring to the Arab-Israeli conflict, Algerian President reaffirmed that the Palestinian question remains the central cause and at the top of their priorities.

This is at the back of continued grave violations by the occupying forces, which are expanding their illegal settlements, killing innocent people, invading Palestinian towns and villages, confiscating land and property, demolishing homes and buildings and forcing the indigenous Palestinian people into exodus, especially in occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

The Algerian President said: "Today we need, more than ever, to renew our collective commitment and our attachment to the Arab Peace Initiative, as a reference and foundation for the relaunch of the Middle East peace process.

Speaking about the reform of the Arab League, the Algerian president said that the challenge of reform is an imperative necessity and requires a serious, responsible and credible way of dealing with it.

Mr Tebboune also stressed the need to ensure a motivating environment, through the exploitation of the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) and existing Arab funds to provide aid and assistance to the countries most in need.
