2018 CHAN: Sudan beat Libya on penalties, win bronze

Marrakech, Morocco (PANA) - Sudan on Saturday snatched the bronze medal at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after beating the 2014 champions, Libya, 4-2 on penalties.

In the third-place match at the Stade de Marrakech in Marrakech, Walaa Eldin put the Sudanese ahead in the 8th minute, only for Salem Ablo to equalize for Libya with just 6 minutes to the final whistle.

The penalty shootout was employed to break the stalemate.

This will be Sudan's second bronze medal in CHAN history, having finished third in 2011.

The Libyan record fell to champions in 2014 and fourth place in 2018.

The final match on Sunday in Casablanca will feature Nigeria and hosts Morocco, quarter-finalists in 2014 in South Africa and Group Stage victims in Rwanda in 2016. The Nigerians finished third in 2014 and were eliminated in the group stage at Rwanda 2016.
