2017 AFCON Qualifier: Hosts Harambee Stars fall 1-2 against Chipolopolo

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - Hosts Harambee Stars of Kenya fell 1-2 to a resurgent Zambian national team, the Chipolopolo, in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 qualifier match at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday.

The Chipolopolo came from a goal down to conquer the match in the first half, raising their own dwindling hopes of qualifying top of the Group E, including Guinea Bissau, Congo and Kenya after a poor start against Guinea Bissau.

The Chipolopolo gained a foothold on the game with a 30th minute equaliser by Winston Kalengo before scoring the winning goal from Collins Bensuba just before the halftime whistle before a crowd of jubilant home fans.

The match suffered a few tense moments in the second half when a more resurgent Harambee Stars emerged from the dressing room, determined for an equaliser.

The fans, on sensing delayed tactics, hurled cans and other trash towards the paramedics handling the Zambian team.

The Harambee Stars looked set for the big win earlier with a 14th minute opener from Michael Olunga but those hopes were quickly dashed with the equaliser from Kalengo in the 44th minute.
