2015 AFCON: South Africa qualify with emotional win over Sudan

Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) – South Africa on Saturday qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea by beating Sudan 2-1 in Durban.

Thulani Serero and Tokelo Rantie scored on either side of half-time and although Salah Ibrahim pulled one back for the visitors, the host nation held out for an emotional victory.

The match was switched to the Moses Mabhida stadium in honour of national captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, who was shot dead three weeks ago, and a crowd of 32,000 marked the occasion by holding a minute's silence to commemorate the fallen hero.

Darren Keet, who replaced Meyiwa between the posts, produced the goods with a competent display.
