2014 FIFA WC playoff: Ghana names squad for Egypt clash

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - Ghana's coach, Kwesi Appiah, on Monday named a 24-man squad for the crucial second-leg 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off match against Egypt in Cairo.

The coach has recalled Dominic Adiyiah and goalkeeper Daniel Agyei while Kevin-Prince Boateng, who pulled out of the first-leg tie last month because of injury, is back in the squad, according to a statement by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

There is no local-based player in the team.

The Black Stars are in a strong position after they hammered the Pharaohs 6-1 in the first leg match in Kumasi on 15 October. The aggregate winner will qualify for next year's final in Brazil.

Ghana had called for the 19 November match to be played at a neutral venue because of security concerns given the political situation in the North African country but the world football governing body, FIFA, last week gave the green light for the match to go ahead in Cairo.

FIFA said it confirmed the venue following a visit by its security inspection delegation after writing to Egypt to provide guarantees on the security situation for the match.

It said the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the CAF Champions League final on 10 November at the Air Defence Stadium showed that "the current situation in Egypt has turned back to normal".

The Black Stars will camp in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, from 11 November for the match, according to the GFA.

The Black Stars will arrive in Cairo on 18 November for the match, to be played at the Air Defence Stadium in the Egyptian capital.
