2014 FIFA WC: Argentina beats Iran 1-0, squeezes through to round of 16

Belo Horizonte, Brazil (PANA) - A Lionel Messi 91st-minute goal here against hard-fighting Iran Saturday sent former champions Argentina, from Group F, into the round of 16 at the ongoing 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil.

The Argentines did everything in football books but the Iranians refused to cave in and even threatened to score on several occasions.

The Argentines now have six points with one match in hand, against Nigeria.

The other Day 2 match in the group will be played later Saturday between Nigeria and Bosnia Herzegovina in Cuiaba.

Nigeria and Iran have one point each and a win for the Super Eagles can have them hoping for advancement to the knockout phase.
