Türkiye seeks to join South Africa's Gaza case at The Hague

Cape Town, South Africa (PANA) – Türkiye is seeking to join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague.

Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, told Al Jazeera on Wednesday that “upon completion of the legal text of our work, we will submit the declaration of official intervention before the ICJ with the objective of implementing this political decision”.

It will join Colombia in formalising its bid to join the dispute against Israel.

South Africa’s high-profile approach to the court over the Israeli-Palestinian crisis made global headlines. Pretoria is seeking several orders, including for Israel to immediately suspend its Gaza offensive.

In its judgment in January, the court ordered Israel to take “all measures within its power” to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.
