Journalist jailed 3 years in Mauritius for 'contempt of court'

Port Louis, Mauritius (PANA) - A Mauritian journalist, Dharmanand Dhooharika, was sentenced to three years in jail by a court here Tuesday for 'contempt of court', judicial sources told PANA.

Dhooharika, the chief editor of the weekly magazine 'Samedi Plus', was dragged to court following his paper's report, in its 14 August edition, on the press conference by lawyer Dev Hurnam who was sacked from the bar.

The journalist reportedly fainted upon hearing the judgement, and was rushed to the hospital where is now on admission.
