Mauritius expects 1 million tourists in 2013

Port-Louis, Mauritius (PANA) - The Mauritian Tourism Industry expects a total of one million tourists in 2013 or 3,6 per cent more than the number that came to the indian ocean island nation in 2012, according to official statistics released here Friday by Statistics Mauritius.

It indicated that tourist arrivals in Mauritius increased by 0.1 per cent in 2012 to reach 965,441 as compared to 964,642 that came in 2011,

Statistics Mauritius also said that the performance of the top 10 markets for the island was as follows: France (-13.2 per cent), La Réunion (+23.02 per cent), South Africa (+3.3 per cent), United Kingdom (-0.6 per cent), India (+2.3 per cent), Germany (-2 per cent), Italy (-24.1 per cent), Switzerland (+6.7 per cent), China (+38 per cent) and Russia (+58.9 per cent).

Furthermore, gross tourism receipts for 2012 reached US$ 1,25 billion, an increase of 3.9 per cent as compared to 2011.
