Benghazi, Libya (PANA) - Libyan and Arab League officials have discussed the latest developments in the North African country and exchanged views on regional and international efforts to advance the political process to meet the aspirations of the people for a comprehensive national solution.
Libya's interim Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU), Al-Taher Al-Baour, and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, held talks on Wednesday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League in Cairo, Egypt.
Their discussions focused on the vision of the GNU to end the transition and establish stability through a constitutional process and free and fair elections, said a statement from the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
For his part, Gheit expressed the commitment of the League of Arab States to maintain its unwavering support for Libya and its people, reaffirming the League's willingness to provide all possible political and technical support to overcome the obstacles to achieving a national consensus and resolving the crisis, so as to preserve the country's unity and sovereignty.
The statement said at the end of the meeting, Mr al-Baour expressed his deep gratitude for the Secretary-General's efforts to strengthen joint Arab action, consolidate the principle of solidarity between Member States.
