Mauritius launches campaign on judicious use of water

Port Louis, Mauritius (PANA) - Mauritius on Thursday launched a nationwide campaign to sensitize the citizenry on the plan to ration potable water for a three-month period, ending in
December 2011.

According to the spokesperson of the national central water authority (CWA), Bhishek Narain, the organization is currently facing huge challenges in providing water supply for the people, partly due to problems associated with climate change.

The campaign, supported by leaflets and posters, is aimed at ensuring that the citizens use water judiciously at home, offices, schools and agricultural projects.

The chairman of the CWA board of directors, Prem Saddul, said the island receives about 2,100 millimetres of rain annually which, he said, is more than enough.
