Mauritania launches food bank

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) – About 100 activists from civil society organisations, the government and development partners on Wednesday launched a food bank in Mauritania.

“The objective of the setting up of the food bank is to ensure food supply for the most needy all year long and exclusively through the intervention of recognised charity organizations and transparency of the network of donors," said Isselmou Ould Hanefi, deputy governor of the food bank, who is also chairman of the Alliance Against Hunger in Mauritania (ACFM).

The bank benefits from partnership with Egypt’s food bank and it was set up following a recommendation from a workshop held on 15-16 October lat year in Amman, Jordan, in view of food insecurity in most impoverished groups in most countries.
