Mauritania: Prisoners jailed for terrorism returned to Nouakchott prison

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) – Several prisoners belonging to Al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQMI), who are serving heavy sentences for terrorist activities at secret places, were on Friday returned to a prison of the capital, Nouakchott, the private news agency "Sahara Media" reports.

Among the detainees are Mohamed Ould Chbih, Amar Ould Mohamed Saleh, Salem Ould Homedy, Abderahmane Ould Yarg, who are serving life sentences.

However, El Khadim Ould Seman, alleged AQMI chief and his companions, are not included in the list.

Those who were jailed after pleading guilty to the assassination of five French tourists on 24 December 2007, near the city of Aleg, some 250 km south-east of Nouakchott, are also being held at an unknown place.
