CHAN 2014: Mauritania lines up Rwanda, Uganda friendlies

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) – Mauritania's national football team, the Mourabitounes, will play two friendly matches against Rwanda and Uganda before the beginning of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) due to begin on 11 January next year in South Africa, sports sources told PANA in Nouakchott on Thursday.

Leaving Nouakchott on Wednesday, the Mauritanians will play their first match against Rwanda’s local team on Friday in Kigali.

The Mauritanian home-based players will then travel to Uganda for the second friendly match against Uganda before leaving for South Africa on 3 January.

Mauritania is in group D together with Burundi, Gabon and Democratic Republic of Congo.

For the first time in the history of its football, after 53 years of independence, Mauritania’s team is participating in an international competition, after defeating Liberia and the Lions of Senegal.

CHAN is meant for home-based players only.
