Mauritania: Three Mauritanians jailed for terrorism

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - A court in Nouakchott has jailed three Mauritanians after they pleaded guilty to terrorism charges, PANA reported from here Thursday.

Mohamed Ould Ely, Aly Yaghoub Ould Miya and Boukhary Ould Dahane were sentenced to 10, 7 and 5 years imprisonment respectively, after they pleaded guilty to recruiting combatants for the Islamic State.

The court's judgement came at the end of a one-day trial in the Mauritanian capital.

Defence lawyers said the trial should have been longer, given the gravity of the charges against the defendants, so the court can discover the ''truth''.

The Mauritanians were arrested in October 2014 in the region of Zouerate, about 600 kilometers North-east of Nouakchott.
