Emirati delegation inspects facilities at Libya's Benghazi Airport
Benghazi, Libya (PANA) - A delegation from the United Arab Emirates has toured the Benghazi International Airport in eastern Libya in anticipation of operating direct flights between Dubai and Benghazi.
The delegation, including representatives of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Flydubai, an Emirati government-owned airline, inspected the airport’s security and technical standards and procedures, according to a statement from the municipality of Benghazi.
The delegation also visited terminals 1 and 2, as well as the safety facilities and the landing strip to assess their compliance with international civil aviation standards.
The director of the airport, Saleh Al-Amrouni, stressed the commitment of the management to implement the highest safety standards and provide all necessary facilities.
He emphasised that the visit was an important step towards strengthening cooperation between the two countries and opening new horizons in the field of air transport.
Furthermore, the Libyan Minister of Transport of the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU), Mohamed Al-Chahoubi, discussed with the envoy of the Civil Aviation Authority in Dubai, Ahmed Taher, the terms for the resumption of Emirates Airlines and Flydubai flights between Dubai and the Libyan airports of Maitigua in Tripoli, Misrata and Benghazi.
They also discussed, according to a statement from the Libyan government, the technical and security aspects related to the resumption of regular flights.
During Tuesday’s meeting it was agreed that a delegation of the two companies will soon visit Libya to evaluate the preparations and set the dates for resuming flights.
This meeting is part of efforts made by the Libyan Ministry of Transport to open new horizons for international cooperation and strengthen the opening of Libyan airports, thus contributing to supporting the national economy and stimulating commercial and tourist activity.
