Launch of joint security plan for Tripoli

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Libyan Ministry of the Interior has launched the joint security plan for the city of Tripoli, under the supervision of the Tripoli Security Directorate, with the participation of various relevant military and security agencies and units.

This measure is part of the implementation of the decision by the President of the Presidential Council to form a joint committee for security and military arrangements in the capital, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of the Interior.

It said that it is part of the efforts being made to meet the current security challenges, strengthen stability and establish the highest levels of security and administrative discipline in the city, thereby guaranteeing the protection of citizens and the preservation of public and private property.

Tripoli's director of security, Major General Khalil Ouhaiba, officially kicked off the plan during a tour of several vital sites in and around the capital, marking the start of its implementation on the ground, the statement said.

The plan includes reinforcing the security presence and deploying patrols in various vital places and facilities.

Tripoli's security director stressed that the success of this plan required effective coordination between all the security units, as well as the awareness and cooperation of citizens, in order to help maintain security and stability in the capital.

Tripoli has been tense since 12 May, when the commander of the Stability Support Unit, Abdulghani Al-Kikli, was killed.

Clashes broke out between the forces of the Stability Support Unit and members of the 444th Combat Brigade, followed by clashes between the latter and the Dissuasion Force, following the decision by the Prime Minister to disband the Dissuasion Force as part of efforts to secure the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
