Sudan welcomes AU Peace and Security Council’s stance towards developments in the country
Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - Sudan has welcomed a statement by the African Peace and Security Council rejecting and condemning the establishment of a parallel government to that currently in place in Port Sudan, Sudan, headed by General Abdul Fatah Al Burhan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in a press release, referred to the Council's statement in which the African body reaffirmed its strong commitment to Sudan's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity. It rejected all attempts to dismantle the Sudanese state or establish any parallel structures to its legitimate institutions.
“The Government of Sudan appreciates the clear principled position contained in the statement of the African Peace and Security Council in support of the transitional government in Sudan,” it said.
It referred to the roadmap announced by General Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, last February, welcoming the Government of Hope led by Dr. Kamil Idris, Prime Minister, and calling on the international community to support it.
The press release reiterated the Government's ‘’ full commitment to delivering humanitarian aid to all those in need in the areas affected by the terrorist militia rebellion".
It added: “in this context, Sudan welcomes the explicit paragraph in which the African Peace and Security Council explicitly holds the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) responsible for the events in Al Fashir and some areas in Darfur and Kordofan, and demands that the siege of Al Fashir be lifted to enable humanitarian aid to reach civilians.”
The Government has, meanwhile, called on international organisations operating in Sudan to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Al Fashir and other areas affected by the militia war.
The press release underlined that the Government of Sudan welcomes the Peace and Security Council's condemnation of foreign interference and its emphasis on the need to identify those parties through the Subcommittee on Sanctions, in coordination with the Committee on Intelligence and Security Services in Africa (CISSA) and the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), and then recommend measures to be taken by the Peace and Security Council against them.
Sudan has also invited an AU delegation within the framework of constructive dialogue, positive engagement, and full cooperation with the African Union. It has also called fr a visit by the African Union Peace and Security Council to Sudan at the earliest opportunity to “assess the positive developments” in the country and the political transition process.
‘’At the same time, Sudan looks forward to the imminent return of the African Union Office to its Sudan seat,’’ the release underlined.
