The national reconciliation process in Libya at the centre of talks between the Chairman of the Libyan Council and Moussa Faki
Tripoli, Libya (PANA)- In a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki, the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Manfi, discussed the issue of national reconciliation in Libya, where the parties are due to meet in mid-February, ahead of the AU summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to sign a national reconciliation charter under the auspices of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya.
These issues were raised during a telephone conversation between Mr. al-Manfi and Mr. Faki, during which they "discussed the practical and legal measures to achieve a comprehensive national reconciliation that will bring the country to a stage of stability and development", according to a statement issued on Friday by the press office of the Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council.
The Chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council also received a "verbal" message from the Chairman of the African Union's High-Level Committee on Libya, Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
The message was conveyed to Mr. al-Manfi by the Ambassador of Congo Brazzaville to Libya, Guy Corneille Samba, during his reception at the headquarters of the Presidential Council in Tripoli, according to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Presidential Council.
The Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, will host the next African Union summit in February.
In recent years, the African Union has been involved in the search for a solution to the crisis in Libya through the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, chaired by Congo, which is working to organize a conference on Libyan national reconciliation in collaboration with the Presidential Council, which has put in place a national reconciliation strategy.
Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso, chairman of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, announced during a visit to Libya in early December that the High-Level Committee would make a contribution to the various Libyan parties in the form of a "Charter for National Reconciliation", which they are expected to sign in Addis Ababa in mid-February.
The chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, has said that he expects the Libyan parties to meet before the next summit of African Union heads of state in Addis Ababa to adopt the reconciliation charter.
The announcement follows a meeting in the capital, Brazzaville, between Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso and the chairman of the African Union Commission, as part of the preparations for the rapprochement of the Libyan parties in Addis Ababa.
In a post published on his official account on the "X" platform, Mr. Faki said: "We discussed continental issues of interest such as Libya, particularly in the context of President Sassou Nguesso's chairmanship of the AU High-Level Committee on Libya.
The committee plans to bring the Libyan parties together before the next AU Heads of State Summit to adopt a charter for reconciliation".
