Mauritius: Mauritius, Congo discuss economic cooperation in USA

Port Louis, Mauritius (PANA) – Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam on Monday met with Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso in Washington, DC for discussion about bilateral economic cooperation between their two countries, according to an official communique issued here.

During the talks, Ramgoolam mentioned the huge potential that exists in the exploitation of marine resources and the possibility of locating Mauritian investments in Congo’s special economic zone.

On his part, the Congolese president invited Mauritian investors to take part in the development of his country's food industry and mining sector.

Mauritius and Congo have already concluded a deal on non-double taxation which awaits formal legislation in Brazzaville before the treaty is formally initialed.

Expressing his admiration of technical education in Mauritius, President Sassou Nguesso said that a Congolese delegation would soon visit the Indian Ocean island to explore possibility of vocational training for youths from his west-central Africa country.

On the US-Africa Summit, which is holding in Washington, DC, the two leaders underlined the need for Africa to speak with one voice at the three-day summit.
