Mauritius: SADC leaders meet in Zimbabwe

Port-Louis, Mauritius (PANA) - The 34th Heads of State Summit of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) will take place 17-18 August, 2014, at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, PANA reported from the Mauritian capital.

The Summit will be preceded by the SADC Council of Ministers' meeting from 14 to 16 August, 2014, starting with the exchange of the chairmanship of the organization from Malawi to Zimbabwe.

Official sources here said Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam will take part in the Summit where Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe will be elected President of the SADC.

They said the Summit will study several reports, namely that of the outgoing president of the organisation from Malawi, a report on the regional strategic development plan and another one on the setting up of a SADC tribunal.

It will also discuss the political and socio-economic situation in the region and the global economic situation as well as matters related to gender and development, food security and HIV/aids.

The theme of the Summit this year is: "SADC Strategy for Economic Transformation: Leveraging the Region’s Diverse Resources for Sustainable Economic and Social Development through Beneficiation and Value Addition".
