IGAD condemns terrorist attack on African Union peacekeepers in Somalia

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The East African Development grouping, IGaD, has strongly condemned Tuesday’s attack on the African Union peace keeping mission in Somalia, calling it a terrorist attack.

In a statement he issued on Wednesday, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, said the organization “strongly condemns (Tuesday’s) terrorist attack” on the base of the Burundian forces of the African Union peacekeepers in Somalia.

A press release received by PANA said the Executive Secretary has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the peacekeepers, the governments and peoples of Burundi and Somalia.

“He wished the injured a speedy recovery.”

Dr. Workneh said IGAD was confident that these attacks "will neither deter nor alter the determination of IGAD and international partners to support the people of Somalia in their search for a lasting peace and stability".
