Senegal to host 15th Francophonie Summit in 2014

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) - Heads of State and Government of member countries of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF) decided on Sunday in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), to give Senegal the hosting rights for the next OIF summit in 2014, PANA reported.

The 15th Summit in Dakar will coincide with the end of the third and final term of OIF Secretary General Abdou Diouf, who ruled Senegal from to 1981 to 2000.

Senegal's bid won over that of Vietnam.

"Francophonie: environmental and economic challenges in the face of global governance," is the theme of the 14th Summit of the Francophonie, which opened Saturday in Kinshasa.

Thirty heads of state and government attended the summit, the first to be held in Central Africa since 1986.
