Pro-Sudan gov't militia vows to 'liberate' Jebel Marra from rebels

Khartoum, Sudan (PANA) - The Commander of the Sudanese pro-government Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, has vowed that his forces will "liberate" Jebel Marra area, in North Darfur, from fighters of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement of Abdul Wahid Nor (SLM/AW) in the next three months.

The rebellion has been defeated in Darfur and anybody who bets on it will lose, Dalgo was quoted by the local media in Khartoum on Tuesday as saying.

Jabal Marra is a region adjacent to Chad and Libya, and is known to be the cradle of the rebellion in Darfur since 2003. Its leader, Mohamed Nor, is in France where he lives and directs operations.

Daglo called upon the rebel fighters to desert Nor and join his RSF to protect civilians and contribute to peace and development efforts.

He also vowed that his forces, which are equipped with heavy weapons, armoured personnel carriers and tanks, would seize "all criminals and outlaws and put them behind bars".
