Najla Al-Mangouch participates in international virtual meeting on violence against women

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Najla Al-Mangouch, at the invitation of her Canadian counterpart, Mélanie Joly, participated on Thursday in an international virtual meeting of women foreign ministers to protest violence against women.

During the feminist event, which was attended by women ministers from Canada, Germany, Lithuania, Albania, Norway, France, Iceland, New Zealand and Kosovo,

Al-Mangouch in a speech stressed that all forms of violence against women and girls were a serious violation of human rights and were totally unacceptable.

She said that this issue negatively affected the well-being of women in general and prevented them from fully participating in society, according to a statement from the Libyan Foreign Ministry.

She stressed the need to strengthen the role of women in political life, especially during crises and conflicts, and to reinforce their efforts to maintain peace and ensure security and justice in their country.

The Libyan Minister recalled that women faced multiple challenges when seeking to exercise their social, political and electoral rights.
The meeting was held in the context of what happened recently with Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman who died three days after her arrest by the vice police in Tehran last September.

The incident triggered uprisings in cities across the country, particularly at night, marked by acts of rebellion symbolized by women removing their headscarves or cutting their hair in public.

This movement has led to an outpouring of solidarity in some Western countries in support of Iranian women.
