Libyan Parliament Speaker praises AU's role in supporting stability in the country

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Speaker of Libya's Parliament, Aguila Saleh, has hailed the role of the African Union (AU) in supporting the country's stability and establishing the rules of democracy through a peaceful process.

Saleh also paid tribute to the continental organisation during his meeting on Thursday in al-Qoubba, eastern Libya, with the head of an AU delegation led by Republic of Congo's Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso.

He praised the AU's tireless efforts to initiate national reconciliation among Libyans, bring the parties together and prepare for the election stage.

The meeting between Saleh and Gakosso took place in the presence of the AU delegation and the chairman of Parliament's Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee, Youssef al-Agouri, according to the official spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Abdallah Blihak.

For his part, Mr. Gakosso, whose country chairs the AU High Level Committee on Libya, stressed that "the Libyan file is of great interest and at the highest level for the presidency of the AU".

Mr Gakosso also recalled that the AU has been working for years to get the Libyan people out of their crisis, and that national reconciliation is the only way out of all the crises.
