Libyan PM welcomes Arab League resolution on the country's crisis

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdelhamid al-Dbaiba, has welcomed the resolution of the Arab League at the end of its 31st Ordinary Summit in Algiers that supports an intra-Libyan solution leading to elections as soon as possible.

In a tweet on Wednesday, al-Dbaiba wrote: "We welcome the decision of the Arab summit in Algeria to focus on the priority of elections, achieving permanent political stability in Libya. Now, the position of the Arab brothers has become closer and the voice of Libyans is increasingly reaching: No to prolongation, yes to elections."

Libyan Prime Minister has rejected the agreement reached at a meeting between the Speaker of the Parliament, Aguila Saleh, and the chairman of the High State Council, Khaled al-Mechri, in Rabat in which they committed to unifying the executive branch by the beginning of 2023 and working towards legislative and presidential elections as soon as possible.

Al-Dbaiba described it as a new path leading to a new stage of transition, while Libyans want to go to the polls.

For its part, the Government of National Stability (GNS) appointed by Parliament headed Fathi Bachagha has also welcomed the final communiqué of the Arab Summit.

In a statement, he said that the Arab League's declaration affirms Arab solidarity with Libyans and support for the intra-Libyan solution, which preserves the country's security and sovereignty, and realises the aspirations of its people to hold elections that guarantee permanent political stability.
