Libyan Council chairman receives message from Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Manfi, received on Tuesday a written message from the President of the Republic of Congo-Brazzaville, Denis Sassou Nguesso, and chairman of the African Union (AU) High Level Committee on Libya, declaring his support to the Libyan people to achieve general elections.

The message was handed to Mr. Al-Manfi by the Congolese minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Claude Gakosso, who also conveyed the greetings of President Nguesso and the Congolese people to the Libyan people, wishing the return of stability, prosperity and peace in Libya, according to a statement from the Presidential Council.

The chairman of the Presidential Council discussed with the Congolese minister of Foreign Affairs the political situation in Libya.

Mr. Gakosso conveyed the greetings of President Nguesso, Chairman of the African Union High Level Committee on Libya, praising the depth of bilateral relations between the two friendly African countries.

The statement said the Congolese Foreign Minister expressed the readiness of his country and the African Union countries to support Libyans to reach a political solution paving the way for legislative and presidential elections as soon as possible.

He stressed that Libya had an active role within the African Union and that it would overcome its crisis and regain its place in the African continent and the world.

The chairman of the Libyan Council welcomed the efforts of the Republic of Congo-Brazzaville and the African Union to work for stability in a number of African countries, stressing that this would have a positive impact on the return of stability and peace in Libya.

M. Gakosso arrived on Monday in Tripoli, where he presented the African Union's proposal for the national reconciliation project based on Libyan ownership and leadership during his meeting with Libyan Prime Minister, Abdelhamid al-Dbaiba, in the presence of Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangouch.

He also met with the Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council, Moussa al-Kouni, who reaffirmed Libya's willingness to bring back the Executive Secretariat of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) to operate from its headquarters in Tripoli.
