Libyan Council chairman in Lusaka for 4th bi-annual coordination meeting of AU and regional economic communities

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Manfi, arrived on Saturday in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, to participate in the fourth biannual coordination meeting between the African Union and regional economic communities and regional mechanisms.

Al-Manfi is attending the conference in his capacity as deputy chairman of the African Union (AU) and chairman of the Maghreb Union (UMA). 

The meeting, which will be held on Sunday, will be attended by members of the AU Executive Council, the African Union Commission and the current chairperson of the session, Senegalese President Macky Sall, and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, a statement from the Libyan Presidential Council said.

The 41st Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, which started on Thursday in the Zambian capital, discussed many important reports and issues at the regional and international levels, including "the adoption of the African Union budget for the year 2023, the selection of African candidates in international organizations," said a statement issued by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The follow-up of the structural reform process of the African Union, the ten-year implementation plan of the Agenda 2063 for sustainable development, and the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the war in Ukraine on food security on the African continent, were among the topics discussed by the AU Executive Council.

The Executive Council meeting will also be followed by the fourth biannual coordination meeting of the African Union and regional economic groupings and regional mechanisms scheduled for Sunday.
