General Assembly of Francophone International Social Dialogue opens

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - The second General Assembly of the Francophone International Social Dialogue (IFDS) opened on Monday in Cotonou, Benin, under the theme "Social Dialogue, Public Policies, Informal Economy and Labour Migrations".

It is under the chairmanship of Benin's Minister of Labour and Public Service, Mrs. Adidhath Mathys.

The meeting, which brings together representatives from some 20 French-speaking countries, aims to increase and make more inclusive the participation of the social partners in the development of public policies, particularly in the areas of employment, informal economy and labour migrations.

Organised in collaboration with the International Labor Office (ILO), the Dutch International Cooperation Agency, the meeting will help them to better understand the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in tripartite social dialogue in economic and social development, and the contribution of social dialogue to better address the causes and consequences of labour migration.

It will focus on the contribution of informal sector actors in the economies of French-speaking Africa and modalities of their access to social security.

The meeting, which ends on Wednesday, will also review and validate the IFDS Project document, as well as its operational action plan.
