France congratulates new OIF Secretary General for taking office

Paris, France (PANA) – The French government has congratulated the new Secretary General of the International Francophonie Organisation (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo, who took office on Thursday, while expressing conviction that she would make all arrangements to give the organisation a new impulse.

For the French foreign affairs ministry, OIF, an important actor in the diffusing and promotion of the French language and the francophone values for peace, democracy, human rights and gender equality, has found itself at a decisive period and France is willing to accompany the organisation in its changes to come.

‘’As the number of francophones will increase significantly in the years to come, OIF will have the challenge to strengthen the French language as major language for sharing and communication, and to give it a new impulse as a language of business. In that respect, Francophonie must take the challenges of globalization, and favour intercultural sharing’’, said a communiqué issued by the French foreign affairs ministry.

Mushikiwabo, former Rwandan minister of Information and later foreign affairs minister from 2009 to 2018, was elected as OIF chairwoman in October 2018 at the 17th Francophonie summit held in the Armenian city of Erevan, to replace in the post Haitian-born Canadian Michaëlle Jean.
