Egyptian civil aviation delegation visits Tripoli

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - An Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority delegation on Sunday paid a visit to Maitigua International Airport, an eastern suburb of Tripoli, to inquire about the operations of the airport.

This is in preparation for the resumption of flights from Libyan airports to Cairo International Airport in Egypt.

Flights between Libya and Egypt were halted in 2014 in the wake of the deteriorating security situation in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, following clashes between rival armed groups.

In a statement, the Airport Authority of the Ministry of Transport said the Egyptian delegation was accompanied by a team from the Civil Aviation Authority, the Airport Authority and Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah Airways.

It said that a meeting was held on Sunday at the headquarters of Maitigua International Airport between the Egyptian delegation and the airport administration, followed by inspection of the facilities.

The delegation also intends to visit the international airports of Misrata, 220 km east of Tripoli and Benina, in Benghazi, in the east.
