ECOWAS condemns Russia's invasion of Ukraine

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has condemned the military invasion of Ukraine by Russia and called on both parties to use dialogue to solve their differences. 

A communique issued by ECOWAS on Monday said it is following with great concern the military invasion which has led to casualties, particularly among civilians.

"ECOWAS strongly condemns this action and calls for both parties to stop the fighting and use dialogue to solve their differences in the interest of peace in this region,” the statement said.

ECOWAS also called on them to ensure the safety of the citizens of all its member states living in Ukraine.

Russian troops moved into Ukraine last week and fighting has been going on since then.

The invasion has drawn the anger of the West that has announced a raft of sanctions against Russia.
