Cote d’Ivoire: IOC throws weight begins Mauritian in OIF secretary general race
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (PANA) – Heads of State and governments of members countries of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) have thrown their weight behind Mauritian Jean-Claude de l’Estrac who is vying for the post of secretary general of the International Francophonie Organization (OIF).
The support has been confirmed at the IOC Summit held on 23 August in the Comoran city of Moroni, says the chairman of the Union of Comoros, Kililou Dhoinine.
The Mauritian Prime minister, Navin Ramgoolam, said the unanimity and enthusiasm around the candidature of Mr de l’Estrac make make him the consensus particularly in Africa.
Madagascar president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, who is also the current IOC chairman, said that "the dynamics of Jean-Claude de l’Estrac have much to do with the development of IOC” while The Seychelles president, James Michel, called on all the IOC family to work for a successful outcome of the candidate.
Election for IOF's secretary-general will be held in November in Dakar at the summit of the organisation.
Mr de l’Estrac will compete with other candidates like Gabonese Jean Ping, Burundian Pierre Buyoya, Malian Dioncounda Traoré, Congolese Henri Lopès, Canadian Michaëlle Jean, Togolese Edem Kodjo and Lebanese Michel Sleiman, to succeed Senegalese Abdou Diouf.
