Congolese FM presents AU proposal for reconciliation in Libya in Tripoli

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Congolese minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Claude Gakosso, presented on Monday in Tripoli to the Libyan prime minister of the government of national unity, Abdelhamid al-Dbaiba, a proposal of the African Union (AU) to support the national reconciliation in Libya.

Mr. Gakosso stressed the importance of the African Union's support for national reconciliation in Libya based on the principle of Libyan ownership and leadership during a meeting with Mr. al-Dbaiba at the prime minister's office in the Libyan capital.

The minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najla Al-Mangouch, and several officials also attended the meeting. 

Mr. Gakosso said national reconciliation in Libya was one of the conditions for the success of the electoral process, assuring that there was no stability for Libya except through a comprehensive national reconciliation that brought together all parties.

The Congolese minister conveyed the greetings of President Denis Sassou Nguesso, chairman of the African Union (AU) High Level Committee on Libya, welcoming the warm welcome he received on his arrival, which reflects the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries.

In his turn, the prime minister welcomed the minister and the accompanying delegation and commended the initiative, hailing the efforts of the African Union to support the stability of Libya and activate its positive role.

The prime minister stressed that the government of national unity called on all parties and urged them to come together to achieve the elections, as this was an important step towards achieving national reconciliation and stability throughout the country.

During a joint press conference between Ms. Al-Magouch and Mr. Gakosso, the role of the African Union in supporting reconciliation in Libya and supporting the Libyan people was highlighted.

The Libyan foreign minister reaffirmed her determination to work for the promotion of stability in Libya, assuring that the Government of National Unity would continue to work towards holding elections and achieving national reconciliation.
