Cameroonian Louise Thobi Etame-Ndedi elected Secretary General of CONFEJES

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) - Former Cameroonian athlete Louise Renée Thobi Etame-Ndidi was appointed Friday as the new secretary general of the Conference of Ministers of Youth and Sports of the Francophonie (CONFEJES) at the end of the 38th Ministerial Conference held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

She was picked from several other candidates, including a Burkinabé.

Since the death on 3 August, 2020, of Nigerien Bouramah Ali Harouna, the interim post has been held by Malian Modibo Traoré.

The new secretary-general, who was a high-level athlete, has extensive administrative experience and knows CONFEJES well, having worked for a long time at its headquarters in Dakar, Senegal, as deputy director of the EPS/Sports programmes.

Ms. Etame-Ndidi, in her 50s, will lead the institution for the next five ,.

CONFEJES was created in December 1969 and has, since the 32nd Ministerial Conference in March 2009 in Bujumbura (Burundi), 43 member states and governments.

CONFEJES is an inter-governmental institution that works for the promotion of youth, sports and leisure in the French-speaking world.

Following the institutional reform of the Charter of the Francophonie, adopted by the Ministerial Conference of the OIF, on 23 November, 2005, in Antananarivo (Madagascar), CONFEJES was elevated to the rank of institution of the International Organization of the Francophonie (OI/F).
