"Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends and the Sudanese football family at large. Please, dear President, receive our sincere condolences."

Five players of the "Al-Malaha" football team drowned in the Nile River after the boat taking them from the eastern bank of the Nile to Al-Matama city on the west bank of the Nile sank.

They were on their way to play a match against Al-Jarif team.

Local Sudanese new outfit, "The Sudan Now network", stated on its website that the deceased were: Waqi' Allah Abdul Qayyum, Al-Mahdi Hassan Al-Awni, Amer Muhammad Saeed, Ammar Muhammad Saeed and Muhammad Fadl Al-Sayyid Abu Arada.
