Burkina Faso, Guinea ask ECOWAS for more time to propose timetable for transitions

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (PANA) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has received proposals from Burkina Faso and the Republic of Guinea over their political transition, the institution said in a statement on Wednesday.

Burkina Faso in its proposal on 22 April, pleaded for more time other than the 25 April 2022 deadline set by the Assembly of Heads of State on 25 March 2022 in Accra, Ghana, to continue consultations on various issues, the statement said.

Guinea, in its proposal sent to the regional body on 25 April, referred to the recent developments in the transition process and asked for more time in relation to the 25 April 2022 deadline to allow for further consultations.

In view of the above, ECOWAS has decided to send missions to the two countries to prepare a report for the Summit, the statement added.
