Belgium: Francophone organisazation lifts Guinea Bissau suspension

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – The permanent council of the International Francophone Organization (OIF), composed of representatives from 77 member countries, on Friday lifted the suspension of Guinea Bissau from the organisation.

OIF, whose Secretary General is former Senegalese president Abdou Diouf, decided in the French capital, Paris, to reintegrate Guinea Bissau into all its bodies, official sources said on Friday.

The suspension of Guinea Bissau from OIF in April 2012 followed a coup between two rounds of a presidential poll.

A statement issued by OIF to PANA in Brussels said that the decision to reintegrate Guinea Bissau was made after the presidential and parliamentary elections held in May, which led to the election of president José Mario Vaz and the establishment of a new Parliament.

The OIF decision involves the lifting of all sanctions imposed on Guinea Bissau and the re-establishment of cooperation between OIF and the country.
