Arab League chief, UN envoy agree to coordinate to find solution to Libyan crisis

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and the UN envoy in Libya have agreed to work closely to find a solution to the Libyan crisis.

The Arab Lahue's Ahmed Aboul Gheit and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, agreed at their meeting on on Monday in Algiers, on the sidelines of the Arab League Summit in Algiers to find a solution that would lead to elections and the maintenance of the country's unity and its institutions.

The spokesperson for the Secretary General of the Arab League, Jamal Rouchdi, said in a statement that Mr. Gheit renewed the organisation's support to Mr. Bathily.

He told the UN envoy of the Arab League's position on the Libyan file, in particular the need to take the necessary steps to establish a constitutional basis on which the elections will take place, and the importance of taking the necessary executive measures to achieve this.

He also reiterated the demand for the exit of mercenaries, foreign fighters and all foreign forces from Libya.

The statement said that Mr Bathily informed Mr. Gheit of the meetings he has held with various actors since his arrival on 14 October to better understand the current situation and possible solutions.
