AU delegation arrives in Benghazi in eastern Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - An African Union (AU) delegation led by Congolese Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso, representing the chairperson of the AU High Level Committee on Libya, arrived in Benghazi (east) on Thursday for a series of meetings reaffirming the role of the pan-African organization in supporting stability in Libya.

The delegation was received at Benina International Airport by the Ministers of Defence, Ahmed Houma, and Electricity, Awad al-Badri, of the government appointed by the Parliament, according to an official statement issued here Friday.

The same source said Gakosso will "hold a series of meetings that will focus on the role of the African Union in supporting the stability of Libya and establishing the rules of democracy and a peaceful path".

The statement noted the African Union's "relentless pursuit to initiate a comprehensive national reconciliation among the Libyan people, bring the parties together and prepare for the stage of elections that the Libyan government is seeking to achieve as this is a demand of all Libyans".

The African Union is providing technical support for the achievement of national reconciliation in Libya, which the Libyan Presidential Council is overseeing through the establishment of a strategic vision.

The Presidential Council has organized a series of workshops on this reconciliation strategy in the different regions in Libya.
