77th UNGA: Libyan presidential council chairman meets senior AU, UN officials

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Manfi, on Saturday held discussions in New York with the chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC), Moussa Faki and the President of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, Hungarian Csaba Korosi.

An official statement said the discussions between Mr. al-Manfi and Mr. Faki centred on the AU Commission's support for the Libyan reconciliation project led by the Presidential Council to achieve stability in the North African country.

The AU has been engaged in recent years in the search for a solution to the Libyan crisis through its High Committee chaired by Congo, which is working to organise a conference on Libyan national reconciliation in collaboration with the Presidential Council.

The statement said Mr. al-Manfi congratulated Mr. Korosi on his country's assumption of the presidency of the General Assembly at its current session.

The meeting focused on the latest developments in Libya, in particular the political, economic and security situations.

The statement said Mr. Korosi stressed the UN's support for stability in Libya through free and transparent elections.
