Prime Minister Bachagha, AU delegation meet on National reconciliation in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libyan Prime Minister-designate Fathi Bachagha discussed with an African Union (AU) delegation led by Congolese Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakoso the Libyan national reconciliation issue.

At a meeting, which took place on Friday evening at the headquarters of the Prime Minister's Office in Benghazi (east), Mr. Bachagha reviewed the ongoing efforts of his government to achieve national reconciliation and create a general climate for the holding of simultaneous presidential and legislative elections.

A statement of the government appointed by the Parliament said the prime minister welcomed the efforts sponsored by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), led by Abdoulaye Bathily, and the AU's tireless efforts to achieve a comprehensive Libyan solution.

Mr. Bachagha stressed the need to reach a intra-Libyan agreement that satisfied all parties and guaranteed the restoration of the national political decision.

Mr. Gakosso, representing the chairperson of the AU High Level Committee on Libya, stressed the role entrusted to the African Union in solving the continent's problems, in particular helping the Libyans in the project of comprehensive national reconciliation and achieving stability in Libya.

He declared his readiness to meet the Libyan prime minister at any time he chose in the capital, Brazzaville.

The AU is providing technical support for the achievement of national reconciliation in Libya, which the Libyan Presidential Council is overseeing through the establishment of a strategic vision.
