Preparatory Forum for National Reconciliation Conference in Libya ends

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The preparatory forum of the National Reconciliation Conference concluded its work on Thursday evening in Tripoli, in the presence of the deputy chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdallah Al-Lafi, and the United Nations Envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily.

At the end of conference, all the issues of concern in the proposed strategic vision for reconciliation were discussed.

The Advisor for the national reconciliation file within the Presidential Council, Mohamed Hassan Al-Labat, and representatives of all Libyan parties and components, took part in this meeting, said a statement of the Presidential Council.

In an address, Mr. Al-Lafi hailed the importance of the forum that brought together Libyans with their different components inside the country to discuss issues that contribute to laying the foundations of a lasting peace in Libya.

He explained that the trust factor that prevailed during the dialogue sessions directly contributed to producing results that paved the way for the holding of the inclusive conference from which will come the legislative, executive and constituent decisions, and a national charter that all Libyans will agree on.

Mr Bathily welcomed the successes achieved by Libyans at the forum, which brought together all Libyan factions inside the country to find a Libyan solution to the Libyan crisis.

He stressed that Libyans had put the cart on the right track to move towards stability, and praised the efforts of the Presidential Council and the efforts of deputy chairman Abdullah Al-Lafi to accomplish this national mission.

The adviser of the national reconciliation file to the Presidential Council commended the participants of the forum for the patriotic spirit they showed to ensure its success, considering the success of the forum as a new birth for the Libyan nation.

He stressed the African Union's continued support for Libyan efforts, which aim at stability, and that the solution to the Libyan crisis should be within Libya and under African ownership.

The preparatory forum of the General Conference for National Reconciliation in Libya, organized by the Libyan Presidential Council, started on Sunday evening in Tripoli.

Representatives of the different parties to the political process and of different Libyan cities, as well as a delegation of the African Union (AU), which provides technical support to the reconciliation project are taking part in the conference.
