Sporting activities slowly resume in Botswana
Gaborone, Botswana (PANA) - Sporting activities are slowly resuming in Botswana following the recent outbreak of the novel corona virus pandemic.
Organisers of the Majwe-AM570 Cycling Challenge on Tuesday announced new dates for its inaugural cycling contest.
“We hold a firm belief that it now more imperative than ever to host this event as the COVID-19’s ripple effects on the economy have been felt the most by the disadvantaged who have now been thrown into dire straits,” said Archibald Ngakayagae, Majwe Mining spokesperson.
Ngakayagae said that the event had to be postponed as the nation went under lockdown and later a State of Emergency (SOE) was declared.
“After the eventual lifting of some of the bans and the return to normalcy, new dates have been identified for the Inaugural Majwe Mining Albert Milton cycling challenge.
The challenge will take place from the 3-5 December, 2020, Ngakayagae said.
The Majwe-AM570 Cycling Challenge comes in the wake of Albert Milton’s untimely demise in August of 2019.
Milton, former Managing Director for Debswana’s Jwaneng diamond mine, the richest diamond mine in the world, located in south-central Botswana, was an avid cyclist, and his cycling passion was centred around charity and giving back to underprivileged communities.
