Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Senior Libyan politicians have agreed to form a technical committee to resolve outstanding issues concerning controversial points in accordance with the legislation in force.
Their work will be based on the terms of reference of the political agreement and its annexes within a specific timeframe to examine appropriate amendments to broaden the basis of consensus and acceptance of the work carried out by the 6+6 Joint Commission.
A statement issued on Sunday said this was agreed at a meeting in Cairo, Egypt, at a meeting attended by the chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Manfi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the chairman of the High State Council, Mohamed Tekkala.
The meeting was at the invitation of the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The statement said that the meeting agreed on the need to form a unified government that would oversee the holding of elections and provide the necessary services to citizens.
They also agreed on Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity and rejected any foreign interference in its affairs.
The statement said they agreed to unify the sovereignty positions to ensure the activation of the role assigned to them at the level of the Libyan state and to call on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the international community "to support this consensus in order to make it a success".
The participants would hold a second round of meeting as a matter of urgency to finalise the agreement and bring it into force.
