Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - A delegation from the Italian Civil Aviation Authority has visited Misrata International Airport, 220 km east of Tripoli, to assess the security and operational procedures, as well as their degree of compliance with international operational standards.
The visit, which lasted two days, is part of the preparations for the launch of flights between Misrata and Italian airports, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Airport Authority.
A meeting also took place during the visit between the Italian team and the airport's general manager, in the presence of his assistant and the head of the airport security department of the airport authority's compliance directorate and the aviation security and facilities office within the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority, in addition to the airport's security director.
The statement said that the audit plan was discussed and clarified and the locations and procedures to be followed were determined by the team.
The team resumed its audit work at the airport on its second day, examining the various equipment and machines available and their degree of compliance with the required quality standards.
The audit also included an inspection of all airport facilities, with the aim of verifying the extent to which these procedures comply with civil aviation security standards, as stipulated in Annex Seventeen of the Chicago Convention.
All these efforts are part of the Airport Authority's plans to raise the level of services provided at airports, ensure compliance with international standards and improve flight safety and security, the statement said.
